Siki Im

{ one and two: looks from Siki Im's FW11 collection | three and four: behind the scenes photos via Dossier | five: presentation photo via The Fashionisto | six: Elliot in the metal shop }

Siki Im is a German bred, New York based architect turned menswear designer. Im pairs complex ideas and textures with minimal shapes and impeccable tailoring. For his most recent collection, Silent Thunderbird Prayer, he collaborated with a milliner, a jewelry designer, and a navajo weaver to create an impressive line with a sense of purpose and history. My brother Elliot helped our friend Dino at Aux Armes Etc build a thunderbird sculpture for his fashion week presentation. I have so much admiration for Im's outside the box thinking and ability to bring together such an inspirational group of people.

Rodarte + Opening Ceremony

{ photos by Autumn de Wilde }

Opening Ceremony has tapped one of fashion's most innovative brands for its most recent collaboration and I am very excited that the two have joined forces. Rodarte is known for their inventive construction and romantic, colorful, and elaborately textured pieces. It is fun to see their creative designs in a more pared-down, wearable, and accessible context.

Alexander Wagner + Clu

{ Clu SS11 collection photographed by Alexander Wagner }

Clu is one of my favorite lines at Roslyn. Their minimal basics are easy, elegant, and topped with unexpected details. Season after season, their lookbooks tell an enticing story and I find myself referring to them as I plan my own photoshoots. So, I was very pleasantly surprised when I spotted their most recent feat on my friend's photo blog. Alex is a friend from my days in Ann Arbor and has been working in New York for various publications the past few years and building an amazing photography portfolio. His eye and Clu's overall vibe are a perfect match and I can't wait to see future collaborations.

Vinciane Fitting

{ photos by Emily Donelan }

Vinciane is a regular at Roslyn and a great supporter of my line. She is a lovely and kind woman who always looks so stylish when she wears her Elise Bergman pieces. When she reached out last summer about having me design something custom for her small Florida wedding, I could not have been more delighted. She wanted something simple but special and brought so many inspirational ideas to the table. After trying on a handful of dresses, looking at fabric swatches together, and sharing several photos with each other, I had a good sense of what she wanted and put together a number of quick sketches for her.  From the sketches and swatches, we decided on a duchess silk satin sweetheart neckline for the bodice with organic pleating across the bust. For the skirt, we chose a silhouette that was fitted through the hips and full at the bottom. The silk charmeuse skirt was embellished and draped with silk chiffon for some asymmetrical texture and interest. Photographer Emily Donelan joined us at one of our muslin fittings to document the process. See inspiration and sketches below and stay tuned for photos from Vinciane's wedding day.
